Our History

In 1989, inspired to find an easier way to move furniture, Bo Matney used his innovation to invent the M&M Furniture Sliders. Bo spent his career as a carpet layer and retired in 1989 at the age of 60. He saw first-hand the need to move furniture faster and easier without damaging the flooring. Bo was joined in his endeavors with his wife, Jo. She spent her career working in the business office in the flooring industry as well. They utilized her knowledge and experience to oversee all the finances of M&M.

Bo and Jo set off to find quality materials to ensure their products were made with premium and high-grade goods. Bo started demonstrating his furniture sliders to people he knew, and the reviews were astonishing. People could not believe how easy it was to move furniture and not damage the floors. Bo started filling the orders out of their garage. Bo and Jo were encouraged by the reviews and set out to build a profitable company.

By 1998, the company grew so much they had to move out of their garage into a shop. They also added more sizes of furniture sliders to the product line. M&M had various furniture sliders to help move just about anything on carpet, but what about hardwood floors. By the 90’s hardwood flooring was back in style and carpet was being replaced with hard surface materials. Bo and Jo knew the importance of staying current with the trends and knew they needed to adjust as well. By 1999, M&M responded for the need to move items on hardwood with the development of the Hard Surface Furniture Sliders in all the sizes. M&M was able to pivot and adjust with the trends of the times.

In 2016, M&M was dealt a devastating hand. At the age of 83 Bo was diagnosed with skin cancer on the top of his head. Bo had to go through many treatments of radiation but didn’t skip a beat. He would work until his treatment time and then come back to work after his treatment. Even during a tough time, they made sure each and every customer got their order in a timely manner. This took a toll on Bo and soon after Bo and Jo decided it was time to think about retiring. It took a few years, but Bo and Jo finally retired.

At the helm today as the second generation of family-owned M&M, is Saria Thompson, granddaughter of Bo and Jo Matney. Saria and partner Billie Jo Cisnerso took over M&M in 2020 allowing Bo and Jo to retire. Before taking over their rolls, Saria spent 9 years running her own Real Estate business in Colorado. Billie Jo spent 13 years in the US Army and has her Bachelors’ degree in Business Management. Saria and Billie Jo are passionate about M&M and the hand-made products they manufacture. Over the course of M&M’s history, as markets changed and customers refined their needs, M&M continues to manufacture premium products with the same values, integrity, and respect that was evident back in Bo and Jo garage.
